Question Number: 22202Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 10/10/2009RE: rec Under 16 Larry Halvorsen of seattle, WA usa asks...Our player down with injury and the oppossing team has ball. The ref awards an indirect free kick from approx. sport of ball when play was stopped rather than a drop ball. From what I have read it should have been a dropped ball. Several refs I have talked to said they would have, in the spirit of fairness applied a dropped ball. What is the correct call? Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino If this is high school, It's an IDFK. Everywhere else it's s dropped ball

In the Laws of the Game the correct restart is a dropped ball from where play was stopped. Under NFHS rules if a team has clear possession of the ball and play is stopped then the restart is an indirect free kick.
