Question Number: 17881Law 17 - Corner Kick 11/12/2007RE: Adult james nolan of kilkenny, ireland asks...when playing a corner kick does the ball have to leave the arc before a second player plays it.? Answer provided by Referee Michelle Maloney No. According to the Laws of the Game, the ball is in play at a corner kick when it has been kicked and moves. So, depending on where the ball is placed for the corner kick, it is possible that it will not have left the corner arc before it is in play. By the way, kicked and moves, means the ball has been struck with a kicking motion and has visibly moved from spot A to spot B, even if that is just a small distance of inches. Tapping, stepping on it or wiggling it and dragging it back with the foot do not count as "kicked and moves".
