This question is a follow up to question 926

defender heads a ball thats loose in the air, goes into his own does it count, who gets credit for the goal? what player? or how do you record it?

Hi Kim,
it could be declared an own goal if the mistake was the result of a bad clearance!
If the ball meerly deflected off the head, like after a shot by the opposing player he could be awarded the kudoes!

I record it as a goal for his opponents, write down his number and circle it.

The player that headed the ball into the goal should be "charged" with scoring the own goal. This would not count on his season stats for total goals, it would count instead under the own goal category. The goal would be awarded to the opponents but the credit is listed under the team losing the goal, which is next to the players name who scored the own goal and "(OG)" listed next to the name with the minute of the goal.
