Question Number: 15935

Law 6 - Assistant Referee 7/3/2007

RE: House league Under 13

Leah of Thornton, Ontario Canada asks...

What happens if one of your clublinesmen does not show up?

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

You appoint another, I would assume. Ask the league.

Club lines are aberations to the Laws, which provide for 2 neutral AR's to be appointed. Club lines are used when an AR unexpectedly does not appear.

Leagues that rely on teams having club lines, because of a shortage of referees, must have provisions in their rules to deal with a team that does not supply one.

Answer provided by Referee Jon Sommer

Club linesman, in the UK anyway, aren't appointed before a match, so not showing up isn't an issue. You appoint someone else. They tend to be parents/coaches.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

You either try to find one, hand a flag to a parent or make do by youtself. In Georgie, Select games are REQUIRED to hav 2 certified ARs. At the rec level it's up to the referee. Personally, I would rather make do with one as I find club linesmen to be more a distraction than a help
