Question Number: 12710Law 10 - Method of Scoring 5/3/2006RE: Competitive Under 11 Mark of St. Louis, MO USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 12677 If the goalkeeper deliberately parry's the ball, it then drops to the foot of an opponent and that opponent then scores, is the goal disallowed? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson HI Mark, NO reason to disallow a good goal? The goal is allowed provided the attacker had not fouled the keeper in someway.
A parry is a controlled release albeit an instantaneous one. The ball is available to be played by anyone!
If it was in the opinion of the referee a release of the ball then the offside criteria is again reset.
IF the ball merely deflected off the keeper then if there was offside criteria present it would still be active! Cheers

View Referee Richard Dawson profileAnswer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer This is a gift to the attack. Goalkeepers who cough up the ball don't have that many clean sheets. Goals scored because of the keeper's mishandling count the same as those fought for. They feel just as good too!
