Question Number: 12677Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 4/29/2006RE: rec Under 9 amy of auburn, indiana dekalb asks...If the goalie has the ball on the ground in his or hers hands can anybody try and kick the ball from the goalie in the goalie box? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Once the ball is held by the keeper no OPPONENT may make a play for it. A team mate can kick it if she wants to because that is not foul play. Keep in mind you kicking the ball out of your keeper's hands may be considered counterproductive by her and your coach. This may lead to, at the very least, you being substituted and at the worst the keeper having something break.

View Referee Chuck Fleischer profileAnswer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Amy, law 12 Fouls and Misconduct is quite clear on this matter Quote: "Decision 2 The goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball by touching it with any part of his hand or arms. Possession of the ball includes the goalkeeper deliberately parrying the ball, but does not include the circumstances where, in the opinion of the referee, the ball rebounds accidentally from the goalkeeper, for example after he has made a save." :end quote
If the keeper has posession of the ball with the hands inside the ENTIRE 18 yard penalty area, the goal area is the 6 yard box and (part of the penalty area)no opponent is permitted to challenge for that ball. If but one finger rests on a stopped ball on the ground that ball can not be played by an opponent. IF a teammate did so there maybe no foul but the coach could go nuts or the keeper injured accidently and niether are good things. Cheers
