- Soccer Referee Questions on Soccer Rules
You-Call-It 64 Question...There is a grass field that in the opinion of the referee has become unsafe due to the muddy conditions . There is an unused old artificial turf field next to the unplayable grass field. The referee inquired & received permission to move the match to the better field. There was a local requirement for teams on the field to use proper footwear as studs were too hard on pitch surface and provided unstable footing. The only sign that was in evident was USE PROPER FOOTWEAR! The referee allowed the team to play with the grass boots they had on from the grass field & as a result the field surface was damaged and two players had injured ankles that had rolled over, primarily due to the long studs used by several of the players . The local association then charged the referee . Is it fair? Should the referee have known the footwear was unsafe?
