Question Number: 963Law 10 - Method of Scoring RE: High School Katie of Sarasota, Fl. usa asks...I know this is probablt the stupidest question you've ever had but, how many points do you get for goals? How about free kicks? Answer provided by Referee Stacy Kalstrom The only stupid question is the one you don't ask...One point is given for every goal scored. It doesn't matter if it is scored during active play or from a free kick. Still only one point...You don't get any points for a free kick unless it enters the goal. Then you get one point...THANK YOU FOR ASKING. If you had the question so did many others you have done them all a service. Please come visit our site again.

View Referee Stacy Kalstrom profileAnswer provided by Referee Victor Matheson While you get one point for each goal during the game, when recording statistics, many leagues count goals as two points and assists as one point. For example, in Major League Soccer last weekend, Clint Mathis of New York scored five goals, an MLS record. His team won 6-4. However, in the statistics that MLS keeps for scoring leaders, his 5 goals count as 10 points. Currently he has 16 goals and 14 assists for 46 total points, good for second in the league. Carlos Valderama in Tampa Bay near you has 1 goal and 24 assists this season for 26 points in the tables.
