Question Number: 32984

The Technical Area 1/14/2019

RE: Select Under 15

Michael of Concord, Ca United States asks...

This question is a follow up to question 32979

How many coaches can be on the sidelines with their team? Is there a maximum? The latter is for AYSO.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Michael
From info provided there is a maximum of two set by AYSO. It also says that the head coach should get assistance. All AYSO coaches are required to complete Safe Haven Certification, be properly trained in their jobs and be authorized to do their job by the appropriate AYSO authority.
The match cards that I have seen has space for an assistant coach so I would say there has to be two. The recommended supervision ratio in AYSO is 1:8 or fewer and there can be other duties other than coaching such as first aid, team management etc. Unsure as to how those persons are treated in the technical area
Addendum
From info provided AYSO National Rules and Regs specify a maximum of two coaches per match:

'b. Remain within the coaches technical area (Article I.G.2) during the match; a maximum of two coaches is permitted for each team.'
