Question Number: 30636Law 11 - Offside 7/27/2016RE: 7 Adult Smiffy of Harwich , Essex UK asks...Does the new Offside Law where the free kick is given where the player touched the ball apply only where a player goes back into his own half or is it anywhere they might move to after the pass to them is made and how will the Assistant position himself if a player goes back in their own half will they croo the halfway line and folow the ball or will the referee give the position Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Smiffy
The IDFK will now be taken from where the offence occurs not the position of the player at the moment the ball was played. That means that the IDFK for all offside not just in a player's own half will be from where the player interfered with play or an opponent.
ARs will not cross the halfway line and the position of the IDFK will be given by the referee at the location the offence occurred mainly where the ball was touched which should not be very difficult. It is a very rare event anyhow and one that AR will not come across very often.
