Question Number: 30549Law 13 - Free Kicks 6/27/2016g of greenock, scotland asks...There has been some debate over this goal over the years. The goal was scored in 1976 and I have read that subsequently the FA banned the flick although I have never seen this verified. I have also seen it said that the ball didn't travel its' circumference from the flick which it clearly did. THis free kick routine varies hugely fro the Willie Carr one. I can see why that was deemed illegal.Perhaps in 1976 the Osgood's flick was deemed illegal but not now. Nothing wrong with the goal then and now in my opinion. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi The Hunt / Carr one predates the McCalliog / Osgood one by some six years. I believe the two footed flick was made illegal in 71 whereas the single foot flick was seen as legal as it could be deemed a kick. So in 76 the McCalliog one would gave been legal.
