Question Number: 30429

Law 7 - Match Duration 5/19/2016

RE: rereational Adult

peter babbage of hjørring, Denmark asks...

I'm sure you must have covered this before biut I can't locate it. The referee plays just 40 minutes in the first half. In the break he realises his mistake. So shpould he then play an extra 5 minutes after t eh break, then stop play and restart to play the full 45 minutes of the second half?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Peter
The Law expressly states that the referee must not correct his timing error by playing additional time in the second half. The second half is played as normal and the first half timing error is reported to the competition organisers. In your example the game is 40 minutes and 45 minutes.
I suspect if there is no complaint at half time that many such timing error are just ignored rather than reported or for that matter fixed incorrectly.
