Question Number: 30088League Specific 2/7/2016RE: Competitive and Rec Under 14 Uriel Choi of CHANDLER, AZ United States asks...Slide tackles in rec games, competitive. What is the punishment? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Uriel In some rec games there can be a stated local rule that prevent slide challenge for safety reasons. If that is the case then all slide challenges whether fair or not is an offence with probably an indirect free kick restart. Now if there is no local rule then a slide challenge is like any other challenge and the referee has to judge whether the challenge was legal or not. If it is legal then play continues.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Richard Dawson HI Uriel, ROC (rules of the competition can adapt certain safety features in recreational play through bylaws. NO slide tackles allowed, INDFK for any slide tackle, red card mandatory for contact then dfk restart. It is to help protect older players in the beer leagues to be able to get up and go to work the next day or keep the younger ones from unskilled challenges. In regular completion though where FIFA LOTG apply without special changes. slide tackles are judged to be legal or careless restart DFK or reckless caution show a yellow card restart DFK or excessive send off show a red card reduce the team by a player restart DFK depending on the opinion of the match referee in charge. Cheers
