Question Number: 29881League Specific 11/2/2015RE: Professional Alistair Walker of London, United Kingdom asks...Hi, In light of Micah Richards being suspended so close to kick off for this evening's premier league match between spurs and villa, I was wondering what happens if a suspended player was submitted on a team sheet AND the officials didn't spot this before kick off. Once the game has begun, what would happen? Also, if the player was on the bench at the start, would they be allowed to come onto the field of play. What would the punishment be for the above?? Thanks Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Alistair It is of no concern to the match officials what players are on the match card. That is a matter for the club to manage. Playing an ineligible player has major repercussions which can include loss of points and fines. Leagues will have an official communication channel and protocols for managing official contact with clubs. A club can not use the excuse of no communication as a reason and I suspect that the rules cover such decisions. For instance in the past registered post was used to inform clubs. With modern communications the use of fax and email covers this with delivery receipts and also read receipts on emails.

They do not apply the sanctions, fines or penalties outside of the match . Given the age of electronics instant communication protocols are likely commented on somewhere within the bylaws or ROC. Teams will appeal suspensions but they are aware of pushing the envelope can cost them . It would be prudent to be sure rather than trust in luck. Cheers
