Question Number: 29683League Specific 9/11/2015RE: High School Dave Jones of JOHNSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA United States asks...A question came up during our chapter meeting about which I'm hoping we get some insight. Our chapter officials games in Pennsylvania. We use either the 'double dual' or 'dual system of officiating. When using the double dual system, the center referee is alternated so that each of the three officials is in the CR position for roughly 1/3 of the match. The question that was brought up is; in states that use the diagonal system of officiating for HS matches, is the CR constant throughout the match or is there a rotation? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham The diagonal system of control has only one referee with one whistle. The referee's movement pattern covers the entire field. Each assistant referee moves along a touchline from the corner flag to the halfway line. The only time an assistant referee (or fourth official) takes on the role of referee is when the referee is injured and needs to be replaced. (Note: For those in other parts of the world who have never heard of a double dual. It is a three referee, three whistle, system similar to that often used in basketball.)
