Question Number: 29097League Specific 1/11/2015RE: Premier Adult ibrahim ishiaku of lokoja, kogi Nigeria asks...Which team welcomes the other by hand shake on the pitch before the commencement of a match, is it the home or the away team? Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright Hi Ibrahim, You should probably ask your local Referees Association how they expect it to be done. Some areas have the Away team come across to shake hands first, some have the Home team come across to shake hands. I find it's usually the Away team who comes across, but I've refereed in areas that wanted the Home team to come across as well.

View Referee Jason Wright profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Ibrahim The FA's protocol on pre-match handshakes states: ** The Home team, led by their captain, then walks to shake hands with the match officials, and then the away team's players. Once each Home team player has finished shaking hands with the last away team player they disperse to their favoured end to kick-in.''
