Question Number: 29093

League Specific 1/10/2015

RE: Rec Adult

AIC of Los Angeles, California United States asks...

I have a recordkeeping question. Team A scores in first half stoppage time (46:48) -- or 47'. Team A then scores just after kickoff in the second half (45:20) -- or 46'.

When recording the scoring, how do you indicate that the 47' came before the 46'?

In searching for the answer, it seems that perhaps there's a disconnect between FIFA and MLS regs. Under MLS regs, it appears that it would be recorded as:

'47+
'46

Under FIFA, it seems that all stoppage time goals are recorded as '45 and '90 (irrespective of when during stoppage they occur), so:

'45
'46

Is that right? I'm not sure I've ever seen this situation arise during a broadcast, so I'm not sure how networks would handle it.

Thanks.

Hi
The normal way to record these scores are
45 +2
46
That tells me that the first goal was scored in the second minute of added time and the second goal was scored in the first minute of the second half.
That is how FIFA now records the scores.

MLS identify scores slightly differently as it would be shown as
47+ and
46.
That tells me the same information

FIFA used to use the same 47+ notation - look at World Cup results from 3 or 4 cycles ago and you might see it. I recall discussion about it back when it happened. They must have decided that 45+2 is a better way to do it.
