Question Number: 28804Law 11 - Offside 9/30/2014RE: Competive Adult Joe of Guwahati, Assam India asks...A player from my team shot the penalty, the keeper made the save but give a rebound at which two of my player entered the box. One of my team player received the ball and passed it to the second player who scored the goal. The keeper said its an offside. Is he right ? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Joe Yes that could be possible if the second player was ahead of the ball and only had the goalkeeper between himself and the goal line. That would place the second player in an offside position which prevents him from playing the ball or interfering with an opponent.

View Referee James Sowa profileAnswer provided by Referee Richard Dawson Hi Joe, I am afraid you lack sufficient details in your scenario!. What did the referee decide?? The PK shot rebound and two of the shooters team mates entering the pk area to play that ball can in no way be offside by the fact a pk occurs only when everyone is in a correct position behind the ball. What will occur is WHEN the 1st teammate contacts that rebound a NEW offside determination will occur based on where the second shooter and or the PK shooter is in relationship to the BALL and the 2nd last two opponents one who is likely the keeper. Now that pass to the 2nd player it is easily conceivable that this 2nd player was closer to the opposing goal line than the ball and the 2nd last opponent. That could be your clear offside moment. Perhaps the PK shooter was offside and in front of the keeper blocking his line of vision again a meat and potatoes variety of gaining an advantage and offside . Cheers
