Question Number: 28389League Specific 5/4/2014RE: REC Under 8 Bridget LeCompte of waynesville , nc usa asks...My son plays under 8 for ayso. They use no goal keeper officially. He kicked a kick off directly into the goal without it being touched by anyone. The coach on the opposing team said this does not count as a goal and the ball must be touched by more than one player. Is this the true? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Bridget At Underage and in Small Sided games some of the Laws are amended to take account of age, skill levels, etc. Modificationd include no offside, unlimited substitutions, kick ins, no punting etc. The purpose is to encourage play such as passing, dribbling etc. It could be the case that a modification as to prevent shots on goal from the kick off is the case here although I doubt it looking at other AYSO playing rules. In the regular game a goal can be scored directly from a kick off. I might add that at Underage the important part is skill development, participation and fun.
