Question Number: 28366Law 5 - The Referee 4/25/2014RE: Competitive youth and HS Under 19 Barry of Arlington, VA USA asks...Attacker A1 has the ball and dispossessed by Defender B1. A1 clamors for a foul, but the ref says there was no foul and allows play to continue. How should the referee say there is no foul? I have seen numerous things done, but I am curious the best and most appropriate ways. Thanks. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Barry
By allowing play to continue the referee 'says' that there is no foul. My own personal approach is sometimes to say 'Nothing there' "No"
I would advise to use what comes naturally.

If you care close, sometimes no words are necessary - - a 'safe' signal (like that used in baseball) indicates that you saw it, and judged it to be a fair paly on the ball.
