Question Number: 27748Law 11 - Offside 9/11/2013RE: Rec Under 12 Tony boris of Pottsville, Pa, 17901 America asks...I know that there is no offsides on a goal kick per FIFA rule 11, but does the same rule apply off a goalie punt? Defenders are at mid-field goalie punts the ball the offense get behind the defenders and receives the ball when it hits the ground. Thank you Tony Answer provided by Referee Jason Wright Tony, A player can be offside directly from a goalie's punt. When a goalie is holding the ball, the ball is still in play. The only exceptions from offside are when the ball is received directly from a goal kick, corner kick or throw in. Not the goalie's punt.

The exception would be from a goal kick as a player cannot be offside from any out of play restart such as a throw in, corner kick or goal kick.
