Question Number: 27453Law 13 - Free Kicks 5/20/2013RE: Competitive Adult Chris of Sydney, New South Wales Australia asks...This question is a follow up to question 27320 Any free kick taken by the defence in their Penalty Area, isn't in play until it leaves the PA. So in the above mentioned instances, the kick has to be retaken because it is not yet in play. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Chris The ball has to leave the penalty area for it to be in play on any kicked restart by the defending team.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Any free kick (direct or indirect) or a goal kick all leaving the penalty area and all must be completely outside the penalty area boundary lines before the ball is in play. If the ball is touches by any player , including the kicker, before it leaves the penalty area, the kick must be retaken
