Question Number: 27355Law 11 - Offside 4/24/2013RE: Rec Under 15 mike of Toronto, ON Canada asks...Goalie takes a goal kick, kicks it right to an attacker who is ahead of all the goalie's team mates. Is the attacker off-side Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Mike A player cannot be offside when the ball is played to him by an opponent no matter what position he is in. Offside can only be considered when the ball is played / touched by a team mate of the player in an offside position. What you describe is not offside just an error by the goalkeeper plus poor defending.

Either way, it's not offside: -- If the attacker was a teammate, he's exempt from offside because it was a goal kick -- If the attacker was an opponent, he's exempt because offside is only considered for teammates (beside it being a goal kick)
