Question Number: 27305

Law 11 - Offside 4/8/2013

RE: Select Adult

Richard Spencer of Folsom, CA USA asks...

This is an offsides question. On a goalkick, the team kicking the ball has an attacker in the offside position beyond the half line. The attacker's teammate does the goalkick and it goes directly to the attacker. Is this offside, or is there not offsides because it it is a goalkick? Simuliar to a throw in.

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Richard
There are three restarts that a player cannot be offside from
1. A throw in
2. A corner kick
3. A goal kick.
As the player received the ball directly from a goal kick the player cannot be called offside and play continues.
