Question Number: 27051Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 12/4/2012RE: Select Under 14 Ernie Barnum of Gibsons, British Columbia Canada asks...On a kick-off, if an offensive player is straddling the centre line when the whistle is blown, is he considered to be in his own half of the field? This would be described as 'trifling'. Technically he is not in his own half but IMO it rarely has any effect on play so it is generally ignored.
If a referee wishes to to be pedantic about this no part of the player should be over the line or the plane of the line before the ball is kicked forward.
