Question Number: 27003Law 13 - Free Kicks 11/11/2012RE: Adult chris blain of london, england asks...Just to clarify on the rules. You give a free-kick away and the player tries to take it quick. Ive noticed in one of my games and on fifa 13 that standing in front quickly slowing the game down doesnt result in another free-kick or even a yellow card. Have they officially changed the rules? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Chris the Laws have not changed and I certainly would not be using FIFA 13 to interpret the Laws. If the referee is of the opinion that a defending player has delayed the restart by stopping the ball then that is a cautionable offence. As the offence happened before the ball was put into play the original restart does not change. What has happened at the Pro level which is mimicked by EA Sports and other games is that the kicking team rarely take the free kick but wait for the player to retreat. However near the end of close games it does happen and then the law is used to deal with it.

Please do not think for a minute this game is to be used to interpret the Laws. Nor should Madden Football be considered authoritative as to the rules for American pointy ball
