Question Number: 26389Law 11 - Offside 5/26/2012RE: Competive Under 16 Jithu of Thrissur, Kerala India asks...If a ball hit the bar and get to a player who was onside when shot was taken by other player and offside when reaches after deflection Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Jithu This is not offside as the player was in an onside position when the ball was last played / touched by a team mate. It could only be offside if the player was in an offside position when the ball was played and the rebound off the frame off the goal or an opponent does not reset the offside.

It is not reconsidered when the ball deflects off the goal - or if it deflects off an opponent, for that matter. Since the player was not in an offside position when the ball was last touched, there is no offside.

The ball is touched or played by a teammate 2. the ball goes out of play 3. the opponents control the ball. In your example the player should NOT be penalized for offside
