Question Number: 25925Law 1- The Field 1/26/2012RE: Select Under 17 Rakshit of Mumbai, Maharastra India asks...What if the markings of the field are washed away by the heavy rain, what a ref is supposed to do then.? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Rakshit The referee needs to ensure the marking are visible. If play has already started he would stop play and ask the ground staff to re mark the field of play. If that is not possible, the game is abandoned and the matter reported to the competition authority. If the game is not started he woul also ask for the field of play to be re marked. Again if that is not possible the game does not go ahead and the matter is reported.

If the field markings are so faint the referee crew can't tell whether the ball is in or out of play, has scored a goal, or inside or out of the penalty area, the match should be abandoned
