Question Number: 25901Law 13 - Free Kicks 1/19/2012RE: Adult Brian of Chino, Ca US asks...If a defender takes a IFK from outside of their own Penalty area and passes it to his goalkeeper who stabs at the ball with his foot and deflects it into the goal. what is the restart? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Brian The restart is a kick off. When the goalkeeper touches the ball after receiving it from a team mate at an IDFK it is in play so a goal is awarded.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol The requirements for scoring a goal at an indirect free kick is that the ball must touch another player before it enters the goal. The goalkeeper is a player. Even if the goalkeeper had used her hand (thus falling foul of handling a ball deliberately kicked to her), the referee would apply advantage and count the goal. Incidentally, you can't score on yourself directly at any restart, so it wouldn't matter if the kick in your situation was indirect or direct.
