Question Number: 25036Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 5/31/2011RE: N/A Other Peter Grove of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshier England asks...This question is a follow up to question 25020 Not a question, more a clarification. I think it might help to point out the section of the Laws that deals with this specific situation. It is to be found on pg 120 in the 'Interpretation of the Laws of the Game and Guidelines for Referees' section and states: 'If the ball is in play and a player commits an offence inside the field of play: [...] " against another person, play is restarted with a dropped ball from the position of the ball when play was stopped, unless play was stopped inside the goal area, in which case the referee drops the ball on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the ball was located when play was stopped.' Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Peter Thanks for the clarification which again confirms our answers.
