Question Number: 24990Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 5/22/2011RE: Competive Adult Steven of Newcastle, NSW Australia asks...This question is a follow up to question 24976 I read through the advice for this question, and want to query the answer of Referee Keith; specifically his 3rd point ([if the CR] decides to issue a caution, if the ball is in play, stop play and restart with a dropped ball where the ball was when play was stopped). I read the LOTG and the last dot point on p. 33 refers to issuing an IDFK to the opposing team if a player commits any other offence, not previously mentioned in Law 12, for which play is stopped to caution or send off a player (and this IDFK taken from where the offence occurred). If I have misunderstood this, when does this provision apply? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham The original question involved stopping play because of bad conduct by a spectator. Hence, the dropped ball restart. The restart reflects who did it (player/sub/other); where (on/off the field); and when (ball in play) it happened.

The IFK restart is for misconduct by a player on the field of play while the ball is in play against a teammate, opponent, referee or assistant referee. In the question, the misconduct was against a spectator which is under the category of 'any other person' in which case the restart is a dropped ball.
