Question Number: 24516Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 1/23/2011RE: Competitive Adult Paulo Schneider of Boca Raton, Fl USA asks...In a ongoing game, the goalie curses to the AR and dropping the 'F' word all over him due to a play he wanted a foul on. He signals the ref while the games was going on on the other side of the field. The ref stops the game to hear the AR's explanation. He then runs over the goalie and issues a Red card. What call should be made to restart and where it should take place. Please advise Thanks PS Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham When play is stopped for misconduct by a player committed on the field of play, the restart is an indirect free kick for the opponents where the misconduct occurred - - in this case, where the keeper was located when he used the abusive language towards the assistant referee.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Since the offense is not a foul listed in Law 12, the restart is based on the last bullet point of indirect free kick offenses: 'commits any other offence, not previously mentioned in Law 12, for which play is stopped to caution or send off a player'. The kick is taken from the site where it happened - where the goalkeeper lipped off. (If that happens to be inside the goal area, the restart is moved to the nearest point on the long edge of the goal area, aka the 6-yard line.)
