Question Number: 24418Law 6 - Assistant Referee 12/13/2010Steve of Stockton, CA USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 24414 Not a question, but some comments and encouragement for Julie. Remember that, since this was Founders Cup, we're really talking about REC level parents, who know very little about the LOTG, so consider the source. Also, give some thought to managing your referee, too. At the half (or even sooner, if possible), tell him/her something along the lines of, 'Hey, I'm getting a lot of flak from the parents, and they're distracting me from my job. I'm trying to ignore it as best I can, but it's really getting bad. Can I count on you to take action if it gets worse?' That brings the referee into the situation, and makes it harder for him/her to leave it for you to deal with. Hang in there, Julie. It can be very rewarding. Remember, too, that of all the people at the field that day, Team Yellow (or Blue or Black or Green or Red) are the only ones that are there For The Good Of The Game. Be proud! Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Exactly!

It is always a source of reassurance to know that the referee community is supportive, that the colleague is not alone nor is their experience a reflection on them but rather a milieu that we are all familiar with.
