Question Number: 24393Law 11 - Offside 12/2/2010RE: competive Adult glenn of saipan, mp usa asks...the ball is kicked by the defender and rebounds off an attacking player. an attacking player in offside position receives the ball. is it offside? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Glenn Yes it is offside. As the ball was last touched by an attacker that 'played the ball to the team mate in an offside poistion that meets the criteria for offside. It makes no difference whether the touch was deliberate or not and indeed it makes no difference if the touch of the ball by the player in an offside position is deliberate or not either.

View Referee Dennis Wickham profileAnswer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Maybe. You say an attacking player in offside position receives the ball. Was he in offside position at the moment the ball touched his teammate? Or was he in an onside position when the ball touched his teammate and in an offside position when he received the ball? It only matters where he was when the ball touched his teammate.
