Law 6 - Assistant Referee 9/24/2010

RE: 3 Adult

Khomotso of Mookgophong, Limpopo South africa asks...

What do u do when ur assistant makes mistakes contineously

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi
The referee relives him of his duties and reports him to the relevant referee authority. It is a serious matter and it should not be undertaken lightly by the referee.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

First the center referee should try to instruct the AR to get him to improve, especially if it is a lower-level game where the AR is expected to be learning. While this is going on, the center will have to work harder to cover the AR's area to make calls.

But if the AR cannot or will not improve, and his performance is detrimental to the game, the referee should dismiss him from his duties.
