Question Number: 23938Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 9/15/2010RE: Rec Under 17 Anthony Murray of Clitheroe, Lancashire United Kingdom asks...Can a goal be scored directly from the kick off with only 1 player touching the ball by kicking the ball directly into the opponents goal??? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Anthony Yes a goal can be scored directly from the kick off. In the great rewrite of the Laws in 1997 the Law was changed to allow this.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Yes. Kickoffs were made direct in 1997. I find it amazing sometimes that players who were not even alive when the Laws were changed still want to go back to the old ways.
