Question Number: 23870Law 11 - Offside 9/2/2010RE: ayso Under 19 Ken of santa barbara, ca usa asks...corner kick is played, deflects of a defender to an attacker in the offside position. Should he be called for the offside infraction. Does the Corner Kick exception to the Offside rule apply in this case? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham The corner kick exception applies. The exception for receiving the ball from a corner kick 'directly' means that the ball has not touched another player on the kicking team.

This applies whether at a restart such as a corner kick or during dynamic play. Since the first attacker to receive the ball after the corner kick is exempt from offside, that exemption still applies after the deflection - nothing is changed.
