This question is a follow up to question 23467

If you review the tape, and I'm looking at the same play, the AR actually signals a foul. Didn't see the foul, but he raises his flag and directionally signals for a kick for the US instead of holding the flag out for the offside restart position. The referee, also on the restart, is NOT signalling for a indirect kick (hand is not raised). You'll see it when the ball goes past him after the kick (as it goes past midfield) prior to the second touch.

My 15 year old son and his friend (both level 8 refs themselves) caught that. I was impressed.

I'm not sure if this question and the play in Q#23467 are the same. That question mentioned a player in the center circle being in an offside position.

I recall the incident mentioned here; by my recollection it was deeper, maybe 25-35 yards from the goal line. The announcer originally said something about offside, but that the player was not off. Then he quickly changed to saying it was a foul. But the guys in the booth still put up the graphic showing the offside line.
