Question Number: 23128Law 11 - Offside 4/16/2010RE: Under 19 Mohannad of khobar, Saudi Arabia asks...If an attacker runs back from an offside position to get a loose ball (i.e deflected shot or a pass to another player) (note that the attacker gets the ball while he is onside should the referee call it an offside ? Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi If the attacker is in an offside position when the ball is played or touched by an a team mate he is offside when he then touches the ball. Where he touches/plays the ball is irrelevant. Even if he touches the ball in an onside postion the offside should still be called.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Hello.A player in offside position when the ball is touched or played by a teammate cannot put himself onside. Until offside resets, the player is not allowed to participate in play. Offside resets when: 1. the ball goes out of play 2. the opponents gain control of the ball 3. the ball is touched or played again by a teammate
