Question Number: 23052Law 16 - Goal Kick 4/1/2010RE: FIFI /USSF Adult Steve of Hampshire, IL USA asks...It is very windy,,There is a goal kick. The ball is kicked and leaves the penality area into the playing area but is still in the air... The wind blows the ball back towards the kickers goal, bounces and goes intot he goal.. Goal or corner kick? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Corner kick. You cannot score on yourself on a goal kick (or for that matter, any other kick or a throw-in).

View Referee Gary Voshol profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Referee Steve Something close to this actually happened recently in a German League game except that a defending player touched the ball just before it went into the goal. A goal cannot be scored by a team in its own goal so the restart is a corner kick. Had the defender let the ball go into the goal it would just have been a CK instead of a goal.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Keith Contarino Assuming the keeper nor anyone else touched the ball, it's a corner kick. Since you're a USSF referee, had the keeper touched the ball before it went into the net, an IDFK would be awarded the opponents for the keeper's second touch.
