Question Number: 22542Law 11 - Offside 11/18/2009RE: Rec, Select Under 17 Kristin Love of Pittsburgh, PA USA asks...This question is a follow up to question 22517 What a relief. I was wondering because in recert class last week there was disagreement otherwise. Someone thought that since the clarification of active play was now 'foot on ball' that it would influence the placement of the ball on restart. He was insisting that this was a new rule. It makes total sense to enforce it from where he was when he was first judged to be offside. Otherwise, one loses the entire advantage of an offside trap. thanks Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham Offsides is a simple law -when, who, where, how - but creates confusion because the parts combine in complex ways. Interpretations continue to evolve, and its good to discuss them whenever referees get together.
