Question Number: 22343Law 10 - Method of Scoring 10/24/2009RE: Adult Fred gaschen of Sacramento, Ca Usa asks...A player shoots, the keeper dives and gets a hand on the ball. A teammate scooped up the rebound, takes a touch and shoots. Does the player who took the first shot that was blocked receive an assist for their effort? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol If the coaching staff wishes to award that player an assist they may do so. There is no such category of play to be found in the Laws of the Game. In fact the Laws don't even care who scored a goal - it's credited to the team regardless of who put it in the net.
