Question Number: 20960Law 6 - Assistant Referee 3/11/2009RE: All Adult Richard Marvin of Sheffield, South Yorkshire England asks...During a recent Premier League match, my other half asked me why assistant Referees have two different coloured flags i.e one is plain and the other is Quarters. For all of my football knowledge i just could'nt answer this question and it is really starting to annoy me, can you help? Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer Could it be that each assistant brought only one flag to the match and the referee didn't bring his? This is a very good possibility. When checking on referee supplies in sport shops whilst visiting friends in Europe I found assistant referee flags are sold as a single item. In America they are sold as the pair and a protective bag is included in the deal. I have never been shopping in England so I can't say with any conviction how they are sold there though I do suspect it is one flag at a time... Regards,
