Question Number: 20895

Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 2/25/2009

RE: competitive High School

Corey of Cumming, GA USA asks...

Hey,

This question has probably been asked a million times, but according to GHSA and NFHS rules, can a goal be scored directly on a kick off?

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Not a million, a lot, but not a million!
YES but only against the opposing team!
If you kicked the ball into the opposing half and that hurricane wind reversed spun the ball back directly (no one else gets a touch on the ball) into your own goal the restart is a corner kick!
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

I have looked over an article that listed the differences between LOTG and NFHS rules and can find nothing regarding the kick-off. A goal may be scored directly from a kick-off but not against yourself as Richard states. The GHSA in all their infinite wisdom will not publish their soccer rules. You have to buy the handbook which I need to do
