Question Number: 20531

Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 11/17/2008

Gil Acedo of Upland, CA USA asks...

This question is a follow up to question 20508

Did every one miss this in Jay of Sacramento's description of the situation:

'The referee insisted one of my players leave. When they did not...'

The referee asks one of the players to back away, and they refuse. I don't agree with his action, rolling the ball to the opponents, but are we are now condoning outright rebellion on the part of a player? I am surprised.

Gil Acedo

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

No you are right dissent is dissent even if the referee is a butt head and a caution with a yellow card shown goes down on the record as a mark against you even if you were correct in thinking you could be there .
Cheers

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

Gil, I don't think any of us addressed this either way in our answers, to condone nor to condemn. We were more concerned with the incorrect actions of the referee.

As Ref Dawson is wont to say, the referee is a field condition you have to adjust to. If he rules incorrectly, there is nothing you can do in the game except politely ask a question. If the ref insists, you finish up the game and address it afterwards with the powers that be.

Hi Gil. You are correct. Didn't adress the dissent which should have been. Even if the referee was completely wrong, the dissent should not go unpunished.
