Question Number: 20050Law 10 - Method of Scoring 9/23/2008RE: Rec. Under 14 Bryan Young of Columbia , SC USA asks...IF a keeper is standing in his own goal but only part of the ball is in the goal is it a goal? Also can a keeper stand outof bounds and hold the ball in play and re-enter the field and play it? Had this happen in a game . I was wondering what the correct call would be . Thanks alot Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino 1. No. All of the ball has to cross all of the line in accordance with Law 10 in order for a goal to count. 2.yes he can. It only matters where the ball is. The keeper may temporarily leave the field of play through the normal course of actions and still legally play the ball.

Goal Scored
A goal is scored when the ***WHOLE of the ball*** passes over the goal line, between the goalposts and under the crossbar, provided that no infringement of the Laws of the Game has been committed previously by the team scoring the goal.
(2)YES
If a player accidentally crosses one of the boundary lines of the field of play, he is not deemed to have committed an infringement. Going off the field of play may be considered to be part of a playing movement.
