Question Number: 19935Pre-Game 9/13/2008RE: Red Under 11 Melissa Harman of Modesto, CA United States asks...Who is to fill out the team players names on the game card? Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson As a referee I do not care but it is the responsibility of the TEAM to ensure it is done. As a coach I designate it to my parent co ordinator. I assume the league condiers it the coaches or managers job. Cheers

View Referee Richard Dawson profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol Most competitions have rules worded something like 'provides a list of players and nominated substitutes to the referee'. Many leagues also have an official form on which the events of the game are to be recorded; these sheets will have a space for all the players' names, and typically the team staff as well. Both of these are traditionally filled out by someone on the team prior to the game. I suppose some competitions somewhere insist that the referee identify the players and record their names. If I come across a league like that, I would hope to be well compensated for all the extra time it takes me to get the players to spell their names correctly. And we're not going to have players showing up a few minutes before the game starts hoping to reopen the registration process. I've got other things to do in the minutes before kickoff. In short, I'd probably do only one game in such a league, and then politely tell them where they can stick their procedure.
