Question Number: 19080Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 5/13/2008RE: High School Ken Rice of Cool, calif usa asks...On a kickoff a player from the defending team enters the center circle before the ball is played. I think it should be a retake but I have been told that the restart should have been from the point of the encoarchment. Who is right? My contention is that the ball was never in play Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino If the player entered the center circle prior to the ball being put into play the game was not properly restarted. This mandates a retake of the kick-off. (And possibly a caution depending upon circumstances for the encroacher... but often this is a simple reminder "please stay out until the kick.")
