Question Number: 18972

Law 10 - Method of Scoring 5/3/2008

RE: Rec Under 12

Peter of Great Falls, VA USA asks...

Can the goalie score directly from a punt? A coach was heckling me about this after I allowed it, as I don't see it as any different from any other player scoring.

Answer provided by Referee Chuck Fleischer

Peter you were correct in allowing the goal. But, unless you expelled the heckling coach you used all the attaboys won in your correct decision.

Regards,

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

What was the coach heckling you about? It's during active play so of course he can score directly. As a matter of fact the only time he couldn't score directly would be at the taking of an indirect free kick or throw-in. You have to wonder sometimes at coach's logic

Answer provided by Referee Richard Dawson

Not only from a punt if the keeper had a strong enough arm he could, using his hands, legally throw the ball into the opposing goal while standing inside his own penalty area. Coach needs early bath to clean out those cobwebs he so adamantly displayed for all to see.
Cheers
