Law 8 - Start and Restart of Play 11/19/2007

Edd Proud of Durham, England asks...

At the start of a game or restart after a goal is 1 player allowed to kick from the centre circle & pass to one of his team mates running forward - eg left or right winger. I witnessed this at an amateur game recently & was not sure if it was legal.

Certainly. The winger can't cross the half line until the ball is kicked, though.

I do hope their timing is close, because if the winger is in the attacking half when the ball is kicked, we'll have to do the kickoff over. If he does it again, he just might be subject to a caution. But assuming their timing is good, and the winger hits the halfway line just after the ball is kicked forward, then off to the races!

All players must stay in their own half of the field until the ball is kicked. After that the ball may be kicked to anyone
